IndoorAtlas positioning uses barometer (when available on a device) for quick detection of floor changes. To enable this, every floor plan in IndoorAtlas has a floor height value.

By default, the floor height is 5.4m, but obviously this is incorrect most of the time.

Thus, it's recommended to set the value to as correct values as you can, using:

  • Estimation by visual observation
  • Estimating from photos
  • Checking from CAD files
  • Measuring

Here we show how to measure the floor heights using MapCreator on a device that has barometer.

1. When using a device with barometer, you should see in the floor plan list view the icon highlight on the below image.

  A) Walk to / near to the entrance of a staircase in the ground floor.

Click the highlighted icon.

2. The floor height measurement tool opens. When it stops "Calibrating", confirm that you're now standing on the ground floor.

3. Walk stairs up (or down) to the next floor. When there, click the corresponding floor from the list.

After clicking, the measurement for that floor is shown.

Validate that it seems roughly correct (~0.5m error) is ok. If it's clearly wrong, click the blue "X" to remove the measurement and click the floor again to measure it again.

4. After you've visited all floor levels, validate that all measurements make sense and save the changes.

5. After saving, you can also see and edit the corresponding floor height values in IndoorAtlas Web Application, under "Edit floor plan info and image"
